The Tenorio Volcano is between the provinces of Guanacaste and Alajuela to the Northwest of the country, between the cantons of Upala, Guatuso, Bagaces, Cañas and Tilaran.
Within this conservation area, aside from being the Tenorio volcano, it is also Celeste River (Río Celeste in spanish), a place of great tourist attraction due to its peculiar colour and the Blue Lagoon that forms a waterfall of the river. Is the area of conservation more rich in biodiversity within the Area of conservation Arenal-Tempisque.
In addition to the Tenorio volcano there is the National Park that bears his name, created in 1995, it has four different areas of life and is considered one of the best places for hiking and excursions, because you can walk in the surroundings of the Rio Celeste and admire flora and fauna.
During excursions, it is very common to see pumas, tapirs, howler monkeys, squirrels, bromeliads, palms and beautiful ferns. Walking through all the Park takes 4 to 5 hours approximately if you stop in specific spots of interest, where you can’t miss the waterfall of Celeste River.
If you ask if you can go to the volcano, the answer is: definitely Yes. You can access along the path of Lake Las Dantas. If you considered that until the moment you already walk too much, don’t worry, the Park has sources of natural thermal waters to relax, but you must enjoy with caution, as sometimes there are sections of mud bubbling that reach temperatures very high that could cause serious burns.
